LIGHTING THINGS UP
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16 (NASB)
Few things are as important to people as light. When people want to be secure from crime, they turn on lights. When people can't see things clearly, they turn on a light. People who are deprived of light can become depressed and even suicidal. Without enough light, people get sick. Light is something we take for granted - until it is no longer there.
Jesus described Christians as light. There are things that cover people's lives with darkness - things such as sickness, loss, guilt, and failure. When people are living in darkness, they need hope. Christians can be the light for them. We can offer them Christ's hope. We can bring light to those who don't know Jesus - those who are living is spiritual darkness - by letting Christ shine through us.
No problem is so dark that God cannot bring, no sin so evil that God cannot forgive it and make the sinner clean. As a Christian, you have the opportunity to be light in a darkened world. Everywhere you go you ought to be enlightening people about God. Will you be that light today?
