MAN
ILA, Philippines – If you ask Rev. Adoracion Jose Villanueva what her lifestyle is like, she will probably tell you hers is a “lifestyle of worship.”

More popularly known as “Sister Dory”, the wife of Bangon Pilipinas standard-bearer Bro. Eddie Villanueva is an executive director of the Jesus is Lord (JIL) church.

JIL, a religious group which Sister Dory helped her husband form in 1978, currently has over 6 million members in 44 countries.

Sister Dory has a doctorate degree in Christian Theology from Promise Christian University, a small religious institution in California.

She is a teacher by profession, and is also the president of the JIL Colleges Foundation Inc.

Heaven-sent?

It was during the 70s. Sister Dory caught the eye of then activist and law student Villanueva, who attended a Sunday mass where she served as a lector.

Since then, a smitten Villanueva started visiting Sister Dory, who worked in one of their family's restaurants in Bulacan.

In a Probe Profiles interview, Sister Dory said her parents disapproved of the match because Villanueva was an activist at a time when the Marcos government cracked down on leftists.

Although she initially rejected his advances, Sister Dory eventually gave in.

Sister Dory found the early part of their marriage difficult, especially since her husband often left home to organize workers' strikes. At one point, Villanueva had to flee to the mountains to evade arrest, leaving his pregnant wife behind.

But things changed for the better, she said, when Villanueva "found God" and became a preacher. After more than 30 years of marriage, their marriage remains strong.

They have four children together: Eduardo Jr., the incumbent mayor of Bocaue; Eleanor Joni, a gospel singer and TV host; Joel, CIBAC party-list representative; and Edelisha Jovi, an educator.

Should her husband win as president in the upcoming elections, Sister Dory maintained that she and her family will not meddle in the affairs of government.

Here are Sister Dory’s answers to questions posed by abs-cbnNEWS.com/Newsbreak:
