MANILA, Philippines—Evangelist and presidential candidate Eduardo “Bro. Eddie” Villanueva brought his campaign over the weekend to Hong Kong, where the religious congregation he leads has a sizable following.

Villanueva on Saturday presented his running mate, former securities chairman Perfecto Yasay Jr., and the seven senatorial candidates of his Bangon Pilipinas party to members of the Jesus is Lord (JIL) Church-Hong Kong chapter, which was celebrating its 25th anniversary.

“No one among these people has a record of corruption. It is because I will not allow anyone who has abused power or stolen from public funds to join me in Bangon Pilipinas,” a party statement issued Sunday quoted Villanueva as telling the JIL “Saturday group.”

A Bangon Pilipinas statement said the JIL-Hong Kong chapter’s “Saturday group” is composed of about 2,000 overseas Filipino workers whose days off are on a Saturday. JIL also has a “Sunday group” with over 8,000 members, it said.

Villanueva introduced his senatorial slate: Zafrullah Alonto, lawyers Reynaldo Princesa, and Ramoncito Ocampo, broadcast journalists Kata Inocencio and Alex Tinsay, Count Habib Adz Nikabulin, and Israel Virgines. The party has coined for the slate the acronym “APOINT V,” from the first letters of their surnames.

In his speech, Villanueva promised his supporters “zero corruption” if he and his team win the May 10 polls.

“We need a new breed of leaders who have genuine compassion for the Filipino people,” Villanueva said.

“Without compassion for our people, government leaders will just continue to neglect even the most basic needs of our people for food and shelter. Without jobs at home, these basic necessities are always threatened,” he added.

MAN
ILA, Philippines – If you ask Rev. Adoracion Jose Villanueva what her lifestyle is like, she will probably tell you hers is a “lifestyle of worship.”

More popularly known as “Sister Dory”, the wife of Bangon Pilipinas standard-bearer Bro. Eddie Villanueva is an executive director of the Jesus is Lord (JIL) church.

JIL, a religious group which Sister Dory helped her husband form in 1978, currently has over 6 million members in 44 countries.

Sister Dory has a doctorate degree in Christian Theology from Promise Christian University, a small religious institution in California.

She is a teacher by profession, and is also the president of the JIL Colleges Foundation Inc.

Heaven-sent?

It was during the 70s. Sister Dory caught the eye of then activist and law student Villanueva, who attended a Sunday mass where she served as a lector.

Since then, a smitten Villanueva started visiting Sister Dory, who worked in one of their family's restaurants in Bulacan.

In a Probe Profiles interview, Sister Dory said her parents disapproved of the match because Villanueva was an activist at a time when the Marcos government cracked down on leftists.

Although she initially rejected his advances, Sister Dory eventually gave in.

Sister Dory found the early part of their marriage difficult, especially since her husband often left home to organize workers' strikes. At one point, Villanueva had to flee to the mountains to evade arrest, leaving his pregnant wife behind.

But things changed for the better, she said, when Villanueva "found God" and became a preacher. After more than 30 years of marriage, their marriage remains strong.

They have four children together: Eduardo Jr., the incumbent mayor of Bocaue; Eleanor Joni, a gospel singer and TV host; Joel, CIBAC party-list representative; and Edelisha Jovi, an educator.

Should her husband win as president in the upcoming elections, Sister Dory maintained that she and her family will not meddle in the affairs of government.

Here are Sister Dory’s answers to questions posed by abs-cbnNEWS.com/Newsbreak:

FASHION

What’s your fashion sense? What makes your style unique?

It's very simple. I prefer inexpensive clothes that are practical and comfortable to wear. And I am not too particular with brands.

If a customs official were to open your handbag right now, what would he or she find?

He or she would probably find a handkerchief, my cellphone, and my wallet which is filled with pictures of my grandchildren.

Suppose your husband wins as president, which designer would you most likely approach for your inauguration dress? Who is your favorite designer?

I don't have a particular designer in mind but I would like to wear a Filipiniana outfit.

WELLNESS

What is your secret to staying well-groomed and beautiful?

I play bowling and badminton. I also do walking as a form of exercise.

What are your hobbies or favorite pastimes?

During my free time, I would read books. I am also fond of dining in fastfood chains.

What do you do after a stressful or hectic day? How do your relax?

Sleeping after a very hectic day is very relaxing for me.

During campaign sorties, in your experience, what things can't you do without?

I always pray especially during campaign sorties.

What is your pet peeve?

I unconsciously pick my cuticle and bite my fingernails.

LIFESTYLE

What are your tips for working moms who want to keep a well-balanced lifestyle?

Working moms must know how to set their priorities. They must stay focused on achieving their goals.

When you want something done for work, your advocacies or campaigns-- how do you get your way?

I lay down my plans and I initiate organizing the workforce or team. My advocacies are focused on helping women and children. I visit correctional institutions, orphanages, and depressed areas-- not just to give them relief goods but to give them hope and share the word of God.

Do you consider yourself a good cook? What's your favorite dish?

No.

Describe your parenting style. Do you have tips for other parents?

I am a disciplinarian.

What books have you read lately?

“Leadership Essentials for Women” by Linda Clark.

Who do you consider your role models and why?

Joyce Meyer and Mother Teresa – both are great servants of God, as seen in their lives.

Describe your typical workday. Has your husband’s campaign for the presidency changed your lifestyle?

My typical workday starts with our 4:00 am Dawn Watch. After having breakfast, I will go to the office to attend meetings and deal with other important matters. On weekends, I spend time with my family.

RELATIONSHIPS

To what extent, would you say, do you influence your husband's decisions?

I do not influence him at all when it comes to political matters but I do have a say when it comes to our family and the ministry.

What qualities do you most admire in your husband? Why do you think he would make a good president?

I admire my husband's passionate love for God and country. He would make a good president because he's got good character, he is very competent, he has the courage to fight for truth and righteousness, and, he is compassionate.

Should your husband win this election, what kind of First Lady will you be?

I will be a supportive one.

KKB Malolos Revived!: A Rebirth

It has been five years since the Lord brought winds of revival in the KKB ministry of JIL Malolos.

Here is an overview of where it all began.

Mid-2004 – With the rise of Starstruck’s application forms’ popularity, the KKB Malolos distributed, for consecutive Sundays, application forms to the youth attendees of the church who want to join the ministry.

October 2004 – Everyone who signed up the forms was invited to attend a general gathering one Saturday afternoon. This served as an orientation and a getting-to-know you event where the plans for the revival of KKB ministry in Malolos were given.

Since then, KKB Malolos has been a very active and dynamic youth ministry, serving as the youth arm of JIL Malolos.

The Youth Sunday 2010:JC Theme Verse

LIGHTING THINGS UP
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16 (NASB)
Few things are as important to people as light. When people want to be secure from crime, they turn on lights. When people can't see things clearly, they turn on a light. People who are deprived of light can become depressed and even suicidal. Without enough light, people get sick. Light is something we take for granted - until it is no longer there.
Jesus described Christians as light. There are things that cover people's lives with darkness - things such as sickness, loss, guilt, and failure. When people are living in darkness, they need hope. Christians can be the light for them. We can offer them Christ's hope. We can bring light to those who don't know Jesus - those who are living is spiritual darkness - by letting Christ shine through us.
No problem is so dark that God cannot bring, no sin so evil that God cannot forgive it and make the sinner clean. As a Christian, you have the opportunity to be light in a darkened world. Everywhere you go you ought to be enlightening people about God. Will you be that light today?
